The Fantells was formed in 1975 with Leon Brown, Ladely Brown, and Hal Lewinson. They are well known for songs they recorded for renowned producers Lee “Stratch” Perry,
Prince Jammy, and the Mighty Two a.k.a Joe Gibbs and Errol Thompson. “ Hooligan “ was recorded for the latter producers in 1977, and became a big hit in Jamaica. For Perry, “Stand and Deliver” was their most popular recording. Songs for Jammy included “Name of The Game”, “Where You Gonna Run”, and
”I Can’t Hide” both of which have been made available on compilation albums. “Ghetto Girl”, was produced by Sonia Pottinger, and another popular tune “Everywhere” was released on the Roots From The Yard.
Ladely Brown departed The Beltones in 1977, and by 1979, and with the addition of Trevor Shields the name of the group was changed to The Fantells as a result of a guest appearance on a talent show called The Tastee Talent Contest.
At the request of Frankie Campbell a member of the group “Fab 5” , The Fantells toured the Caribbean with Fab 5 and Clancey Eccles’
After many years the group departed to pursue their each individual goals. Hal Lewinson continued his singing career is still active under the pseudonym Hal ”Reggaeman” Anthony and has recorded his original material as well as a tribute album of The Gladiators greatest hits and also an album of festival songs ranging from the years 1966 to 1987.
With the blessing of former members, Hal “Reggaeman” Anthony decided to revive The Fantells with new members Glenroy Davis a.k.a “Mr. Pinicle” and Ted Greaves Jr.
Hal “Reggaeman” Anthony, “Mr.Pinicle” and Ted Greaves Jr has released singles “Peace And Love” with producer Willie Lindo and also ‘Wear You To The Ball” in tandem with dub
poet Malachi Smith. Their new album is produced by accomplished Eugene Grey, and features lush musical and vocal arrangements for your enjoyment titled “Just For You”.
